Home Learning

Spellings will be sent home at the start of each half term, in the form of a booklet containing spellings for the whole of that half term. Spellings tests will take place on a Friday, dates shown in the booklet.

Reading

Home reading is invaluable to ensure that your child meets the expected standard or above. We recommend that your child reads a minimum of 3 times a week and either you or your child can write in the reading record book. If they read any books or magazines that are not on the school scheme, we ask that these are also recorded in their reading records. Our aim is to move as many children as possible off our scheme books. If your child moves onto own choice books they will be able to choose one from the class library.

Reading Challenge

Each week, in order to move a space on our race track reading challenge children will need to change their book at least once. If children are reading longer, chapter books we expect them to read at least 50 pages. Once children have completed a lap of our race track they will be rewarded with a certificate presented in Celebration Worship the following week.

Year 4 Multiplication Test

In the Summer term of Year 4 there will be a statutory times tables assessment set by the Government. Therefore, learning the Multiplication tables is an important part of Year 4 home learning.  We welcome your support in learning these as over learning is exceptionally important. It is required that Year 4 children have a quick recall of their times tables facts to 12x12. All Year 4 pupils will take part in a government assessment. This is taken online, where children answer 25 questions with 6 seconds to answer them.
 Swimming

Swimming will be in the Spring term. The lessons will be held at Wolgarston, assessed and employed by Wolgarston staff. For the lessons, girls will need a hat and a costume and boys require swimming trunks (not baggy short style). Goggles can be worn but only with a letter of parental consent. Further letters to follow.

Snacks and Water

We encourage water bottles to be brought into school every day filled with water only.
Snacks should consist of either fruit or cheese.

PE

Children will need an outdoor and indoor PE kit to keep in their lockers for their PE lessons.
As PE is part of the school curriculum, they will need the correct kit:
Outdoor PE kit: Plain black tracksuit jacket/sweatshirt and black jogging bottoms with a white t shirt and trainers.
Indoor PE kit: White t shirt and plain black shorts.

Year 4's PE days will be Mondays and Wednesdays for this half term. Pupils with long hair will need a hairband to tie it back and earrings must be able to be removed by the pupil.
