Home Learning

Spellings will be sent home every Friday to practise, ready for a Spelling test every Thursday. Home learning should also consist of children accessing Bug Club, Education City and Times Tables Rockstars.

Reading

Home reading is invaluable to ensure that your child meets the expected standard or above. We recommend that your child reads a minimum of 3 times a week and either you or your child can write in the reading record book. If they read any books or magazines that are not on the school scheme, we ask that these are also recorded in their reading records. Our aim is to move as many children as possible off our scheme books. If your child moves onto own choice books they will be able to choose one from the class library.

Reading Challenge

We have a reading challenge display in our classroom entitled 'Racing to Read' where children move along our reading race track once they have finished their school reading books. When they reach the finish line, they will receive a special treat!

Year 4 Multiplication Test

In Year 3, we revise the Key Stage 1 times tables (2x, 5x and 10x) and once secure, we move onto learning the following times tables: 4x, 8x and 3x.

In the Summer term of Year 4 there will be a statutory times tables assessment set by the Government. Therefore, learning the Multiplication tables is an important part of Year 3 and Year 4 home learning.  We welcome your support in learning these as over learning is exceptionally important. It is required that Year 4 children have a quick recall of their times tables facts to 12x12. All Year 4 pupils will take part in a government assessment. This is taken online, where children answer 36 questions with 6 seconds to answer them.
Swimming

Swimming will be in the Spring term. The lessons will be held at Wolgarston, assessed and employed by Wolgarston staff. For the lessons, girls will need a hat and a costume and boys require swimming trunks (not baggy short style). Goggles can be worn but only with a letter of parental consent. Further letters to follow.

Snacks and Water

We encourage water bottles to be brought into school every day filled with water only.
Snacks should consist of either fruit or cheese.

PE

Currently, we ask for children to come into school in their PE kits on their PE days, which will be Mondays (only if they are taking part in the after school club) and Thursdays.  Children will also need to wear trainers on Fridays for their Cross Country activities. These days may change later in the year. As PE is part of the school curriculum, they will need the correct kit. In the colder months, please can you send your child in a black tracksuit and bottoms.

Spellings

We have 3 weekly Spelling lessons in Year 3 where children practise their spelling rules and common exception words. In order for children to be at the Expected standard, they will need to be able to read and spell all of these words correctly. The Years 3 and 4 words are split between the 2 classes so that by the end of Year 4 they will know all of these words.

Please see the links below for the common exception word lists.
