Vision Statement

Our vision is for all children at St Michaels 1st School to be able to have a voice and contribute towards the continuous improvement of our school community.

Our Mission

Inspiring a love of learning in a supportive community.

Our Aim
  • Our school council work together as a team to ensure we can be the best school possible.
  • We aim to make pupils feel comfortable, happy and safe at school.
  • To give every pupil a voice to make decisions fair and play an active role in making our school a better place for all.
  • To give pupils the opportunity to let adults know their feelings and opinions about things that affect them.
  • Our school council want to improve and build good relationships with our local community.

The School Council has made some important decisions, including; selection of the new school uniform, colour schemes for school's bathrooms, helping to choose the layout for the school garden, meeting a sales person to decide which trim trail to buy, organising a school football kit and giving Mrs Cahalan ideas how to improve the playground.

Previously we were involved in fundraising for Haiti where we organised a penny trail, and raising funds to sponsor a child’s education abroad. We also sponsored a boy from Brazil called Victor and his mother has wrote to us to thank us.
Before the lockdown we generously donated our unwanted clothes to the Salvation Army as part of the charity's Recycle with Michael scheme which aims to encourage waste reduction.

An important role the School council is helping Mrs Cahalan choose new teachers. The council decide on some questions before the interview and we get a chance to ask our questions to the candidates. Afterwards Mrs Cahalan asks our opinion on which teacher we like and why. This year school council have taken on the additional responsibility of E-safety representatives, helping to promote E-safety awareness across the school.

We have decided that the existing School Council will remain for 2021/22 and we welcome the Reception  representatives to school council. They are:

Reception - Freddie & Harper

Year 1 - Kamden & Autumn

Year 2 - Isla & James

Year 3 - Aaron & Evie

Year 4 - Harley & Mila
